Interior Ministry orders probe into alleged assassination attempt on Special Prosecutor

By News1

The Ministry of Interior has ordered a full-scale investigation into alarming claims that the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, survived two assassination attempts while executing his duties last year.

The directive made on Monday, follows comments made by the Director of Research, Communications, and Strategy at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Sammy Darko, on JoyNews’ Newsfile program on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

On the program, Mr. Darko also alleged that he was previously handcuffed and assaulted by seventeen police officers.

In a statement, the Ministry confirmed it had noted the highly concerning claims, emphasizing that verified threats against officials of accountability institutions pose a serious danger to national anti-corruption efforts.

β€œBeyond the security implications of these claims, such dangers to personnel of accountability institutions, if true, can undermine the government’s efforts to combat corruption, which have intensified since it took office.”

The Ministry, however, noted that no formal reports of such threats were found in the records of any police station or state security agency.

Reaffirming its core mandate, the statement concluded: β€œThe Ministry of Interior reiterates its commitment to protecting all lives and property, ensuring every Ghanaian can conduct their lawful affairs without fear for their safety.”
