An 11-year-old boy has tragically drowned in a dugout pond at Adenta Aviation, near the KNUST campus in Accra, on Monday morning.
The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of uncovered water bodies in residential areas.
Firefighters and rescue officers arrived at the scene around 8:55 a.m. and immediately commenced a search operation to locate the missing child.
After nearly two hours of intensive efforts, the boy’s lifeless body was recovered from the pond at approximately 10:55 a.m. and subsequently handed over to the appropriate authorities for the necessary protocols.
The rescue operation was carried out by personnel from the Adenta Fire Station, with support from other security and emergency service agencies.
This latest tragedy has renewed calls for urgent action to address the dangers posed by unprotected dugout ponds, particularly in communities where children are vulnerable.
Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning, while also urging parents and guardians to exercise increased vigilance and keep children away from hazardous water bodies.
