2,600 rounds of ammunition intercepted by Police in Ashanti South

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has intercepted a significant cache of weapons, seizing 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition in a security operation at the Asankare police checkpoint.

The discovery was made after officers stopped a commercial bus, registration number GT 5771-18, en route to the northern part of the country.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the ammunition, along with two bulletproof vests and protective helmets.

Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP Cephas Arthur, confirmed the interception. He stated the operation is part of heightened police efforts to clamp down on crime and ensure public safety, especially during the festive period.

ACP Arthur assured residents that the Police Command has implemented robust security measures ahead of the December 31, 2025, celebrations to safeguard lives and property throughout the region.

He also urged the public to adopt necessary personal safety precautions, such as securing their homes, to mitigate risks of robbery and other criminal acts.

Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the origin and intended destination of the ammunition. No arrests have been announced in connection with the seizure at this time.
