Twenty-eight Ghanaian nationals, mostly young people, have been rescued from a human trafficking ring in Côte d’Ivoire and safely returned home, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed.

The victims were repatriated on Sunday, May 10, 2026, following a joint operation involving Ghanaian security personnel and officials from the Ghanaian Embassy in Abidjan.

In a statement released Monday, the Ministry said the rescued individuals are now in Ghana and are cooperating with authorities as investigations continue.

The government also thanked Ivorian officials for their intelligence-sharing and collaboration, which were key to the success of the rescue mission.

“Ghanaians are hereby advised to be extra vigilant and avoid becoming victims of such trafficking schemes,” the statement warned.

The Mahama administration further assured the public that all necessary efforts are underway to dismantle the criminal networks behind the trafficking and ensure the masterminds face justice.

The Ministry urged citizens to be wary of unlicensed recruitment agencies that promise travel or job opportunities abroad.

It advised the public to verify any such offers with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, or any Ghanaian diplomatic mission overseas before taking action.
