According to police reports, three people have been injured in a bloody clash between Ghanaian and Nigerian traders at the Kwame Nkrumah circle.
The fight which occurred on Monday morning follows the closure of shops belonging to some Nigerian traders.
Six individuals have been arrested in relation to the event since this morning.
According to reports, the aggrieved Nigerian traders first attacked their Ghanaian counterparts with cutlasses and guns.
It must be recalled that there has been tension between the two factions of traders in recent times, with some members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) allegedly closing down shops belonging to Nigerians in Kumasi.
The genesis of the bad blood between the two groups is simply as a result of the fact that Ghanaian traders feel foreigners, particularly Nigerians, Chinese and Lebanese have taken over their retail business, which is against retail laws.
Speaking in an interview, Vice President of All Chairmen Association, a Ghanaian Traders’ group, Kojo Dankwa, said, Nigerians have succeeded in taking over business from Ghanaians through unfair trade practices.
He said Nigerian traders in Ghana were recruiting their relatives from Nigeria and placing them at vantage points to gain hold of the market over their Ghanaian counterparts.
