Rapper Yaa Pono has slammed fellow artiste Shatta Wale for suggesting that rap music in Ghana has no future and cannot stand the test of time.
He described the dancehall artiste’s comments, insinuating that hiplife legend Reggie Rockstone made no impact as the pioneer of rap in Ghana, as “rubbish”.
Shatta Wale’s outburst was in response to rapper Sarkodie’s latest aggressive diss track “Sub Zero” which was released Monday amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“The elderly detests rap; they rather like highlife,” he said in an interview with TV3’s MzGee. “Rap is not even going to stand strong. People like Sarkodie do this at this time, I blame Reggie Rockstone for bringing rap to Ghana. If Sarkodie has thrown a shot at me at this time that people are dying, what is he trying to do, can’t he wait.”
In reaction, Yaa Pono indicated that Shatta Wale was only making lousy statements.
Sharing snippets of Shatta Wale’s interview, Yaa Pono said: “Rubbish talk … drago.”
