Ghanaian artiste Tinny has made an interesting assertion regarding the fate of Hiplife music in the country.
Tinny who broke into the music scene in 2007 claimed in an interview with legendary music producer Hammer on “Hammer Time” on Pure FM that Hiplife as a genre is dead.
He made this statement while speaking about the impact of Hiplife in Ghana now.
According to the “Makola kwakwe” hitmaker, he would not describe himself as a Hiplife artiste because Hiplife is dead.
He stated further that the genre had phased out after the introduction of Azonto and Afrobeats as such, he would prefer to be known as a musical artiste and not a Hiplife artiste.
He said:
“Hiplife is dead. You barely see people come up and say they want to be Hiplife artistes and I think it has something to do with time because even Hiphop has changed in America and I think even when Azonto came it caused some distraction to Hiplife.”
When asked what can be done to revive the genre in Ghana, Tinny was of the view that musicians had to go back in time and only Hammer of the Last Two fame can revive Hiplife.
“So if we need Hiplife back we need Hammer back in the studio” he explained.
