Singer Kelvyn Boy claims a number of Ghanaian artistes including Sarkodie say they are Afrobeats artistes when they travel abroad.
According to him, these artistes usually put aside the music genres they are known for and pick up Afrobeats.
He said he has heard even rappers claim that they are Afro Dancehall and Afrobeats artistes when they leave the shores of Ghana.
The Afrobeats singer said the likes of Sarkodie claim Afrobeats just so they can rake in on the popularity of the genre abroad.
“I know a lot of big artistes who are rappers but when they go out of Ghana they say they do Afrobeats or Afro Dancehall. I’ve heard Sarkodie say he is an Afrobeats artiste outside Ghana,”, he said on Prime Morning on Joy Prime.
Kelvyn Boy stated that majority of Ghanaian artistes do Afrobeats and should openly embrace the genre rather than claiming other genres.
“But I will say it one-millionth time, we do Afrobeats. That’s what we do now, that’s what we’ve been doing from time we didn’t realize. Its Afrobeats now, one genre.”
Kelvyn Boy has also been advocating that all awards schemes in Ghana have a category mainly for Afrobeats.
