Ghanaian artiste Stonebwoy says Ghanaians hardly rally strongly behind their artistes when they get nominations for international awards.
According to him, unlike his country folks, Nigerians do better when it comes to supporting their artistes to win foreign awards.
The Reggae and Dancehall act feels that Ghanians can do more to elevate their artistes on international platforms such as the BETs and the Grammys.
Though Stonebwoy acknowledged that Nigeria has more numbers than Ghana, he stressed that commitment to a given agenda is key.
“You see, Nigerians are more populous than we are. I think they are ten times our population. So if two people or a person understands what the Grammy is here in Ghana, it will mean 10 people would understand it more in Nigeria.”
“I’m speaking out of experience but I stand to be corrected. Ghanaians don’t appreciate the magnitude or certain heights that their artistes have been able to make for themselves. Because of that, they will not rally behind you or push you to hit more benchmarks”, he said on JoyNews.
Stonebwoy stated that Nigerians artistes win more international awards due to the support from their citizens.
“If that debate is between Ghana and Nigeria, then Nigerians know how to push their artistes to the world more than we do. That is why we are seeing this output.
Stonebwoy recently had his song ‘Nominate’ featuring Keri Hilson debut on the Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart at number 19.
