Ghanaian musician Emmanuel Andrews Samini, simply known as Samini, says he has never received royalties in Ghana after over 15 years of producing hits.
According to the singer, from the day he released his first major hit, ‘Linda’ to date, he has received no royalties for his music.
“When I released Linda to today, from all the collaborations I did after Linda to today, Ghana hasn’t given me any royalties”, he said.
The artist added that he was lucky to have registered with some international rights societies.
He revealed that though he doesn’t receive royalties in Ghana, the international rights socities pay him royalties for his music.
“Lucky for me and some others (artistes), we saw the vision and signed me onto some international collection societies and for the past 12 years I’ve received some cheques from them,” he said on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.
Samini believes many veterans in the music industry are suffering because they did not fight to put in place laws to guide their intellectual properties.
He further stated that the shortcoming has affected the new generation as well because they receive no royalties for their hard work.
