Akufo-Addo lifts ban on public gatherings in phases

President Akufo-Addo is lifting the ban on public gatherings in various phases.

He had extended the ban in Ghana on May 10 till May 31, 2020.

In his address to the nation on Sunday, May 31, he detailed the various phases.

“So, fellow Ghanaians, with effect from Friday, 5th June, we will begin Stage
One of the process of easing restrictions”, he announced.

Religious services are to host only 25 % of congregation size and not more than 100 people in an auditorium with a one meter social distancing rule.

Mandatory wearing of masks has been directed by the President at all religious services.

Religious activities are to last for a duration of one hour.

Religious bodies have been asked to disinfect and fumigate their facilities.

President Akufo-Addo urged religious groups to use the first Sunday after the ban is lifted for worship and prayers for the nation.

On Monday 15th June, Universities will be opened for final year students.

Also, final year students in Senior High Schools are to return to school on 22nd June with only 25 students in a class.

On 29th June, Junior High School students will also return to school with 30 students in a class

University lectures are to host only half the class size in a hall.

Private burials with a maximum of 100 attendees will be allowed.

President Akufo-Addo stated that large gatherings such as sporting activities, night clubs, festivals, large religious gatherings have still been banned till July 31.

However, individual, non-contact sports have been permitted to happen.

Conferences, workshops, weddings, and political activities except rallies can now take place with a maximum of 100 people.

He also announced that Ghana’s borders remain closed.

Ghana as of May 31 has recorded 8,070 coronavirus cases.
