The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr James Oppong-Boanuh, has ordered the immediate interdiction of two of his men for the shooting and killing of a 22-year-old man at Kasoa last Friday night.

The IGP has asked the Kasoa Divisional Police to collect all uniforms, weapons and any other police items in the possession of the two suspects: Lance Corporal Issifu Tahiru and Corporal Samuel Boamah.

Lance Corporal Tahiru and Corporal Boamah, until last Friday, were members of the Rovers Unit of the Kasoa Divisional Police Command. They are currently in police custody, pending investigations into the alleged shooting.

According to reports, the two officers were said to have had a confrontation with some customers at a popular drinking bar at Kasoa Main Roundabout, JVC.

During the altercations, one Musah Mohammed was shot dead with a gun belonging to one of the police officers. According to the Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irene Oppong, about 12.30 a.m. last Saturday, the Kasoa Divisional Police Command received a distress call that Corporal Boamah of the Kasoa Rovers Unit had shot and killed a civilian at Kasoa.

She said upon arrival at the scene, they gathered that one of the officers L/Cpl Tahiru in question had gone to the drinking spot with a sidearm, loaded with 13 live ammunition. She said in the course of drinking, there was a confrontation between the two policemen and some customers of the JVC and Tahiru pulled out the gun in order to frighten the crowd, but Boamah snatched it and fired, killing Mohammed.

The Public Relations Officer said, both men have been detained in custody and the suspected murder weapon with nine rounds of ammunition has been retrieved.

She said the police are handling the case as a murder case, and investigations into it had started in earnest.
