Highlife veteran, Jackson Alfred Adofo popularly known as J.A. Adofo has revealed that yams and plantain were accepted as payment for gate fee to watch their performances at concerts.
Speaking about his music journey, the musician disclosed that event organizers accepted the food stuff from patrons who didn’t have money to pay.
“At certain places, we accepted a single plantain or a tuber of yam from people and they are allowed to go and watch our concerts”, he told Ohemaa Woyeje on Angel FM.
He explained that concerts were strategically organized on market days so that the tubers of yam and bunch of plantain could be sold as a means to recoup their monies.
J.A Adofo revealed each patron was supposed to pay ‘sempoa’ [which is 3 pesewas in today’s currency] or ‘teku’ as gate fee.
The musician also said he had a spiritual father but he never relied on black magic for his music success.
“I had a spiritual father at Nkawkaw called Chichi Osei who taught me a lot including some two special snakes that when killed and the skin dried and pounded into powder, can be combined with fire and alcohol to cause a rainfall to destroy someone’s work”, he disclosed.
The singer also known as Black Chinese stated he relied on God throughout his music journey.
