The remarkable tune by Kofi Kinaata titled ‘Things Fall Apart’ was of good use during a recent vetting by the Supreme Court of Ghana.

During the vetting of Justice Gertrude Torkonoo, a nominee for Ghana’s Supreme court, the song was used as a basis for a question.

Fan of Highlife artiste Kofi Kinaata and Effia MP Mr. Joseph Cudjoe put in a question on the hit song ‘Things fall apart’.

Kofi Kinaata’s song questions the Church and the hypocritical attitudes of religious people as well as some citizens.

Justice Gertrude Torkonoo had expressed her love for evangelism and her strong belief in her Christian faith and values, thus prompting the MP to ask about her views on the song which has gone viral.

Joseph Cudjoe referred to the lyrics of the song “Chapel yi w’wo schools paa, Nso members yi w’ntumi w’nko bi” to wit ”churches own schools but members struggle to pay for the tuition of their wards in these schools.’

Justice Gertrude Torkonoo acknowledged the song but avoided commenting on the content of the song.

“Honorable Member, this is a kind of question I’ll like to discuss with my daughters around the dinner table”, she said.

Chairman of the Appointments Committee Joe Osei Owusu found the question quite unusual.

Joseph Cudjoe explained that the Takoradi-based Hiplife artiste, Kofi Kinaata, is a member of his constituency and so he was soliciting the nominee’s view on his hit song.
