Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy has debunked reports that he has endorsed the legalization of motorbike business popularly known as Okada in Ghana.
The singer has issued a disclaimer in response to a video posted three years ago and being used as evidence that he has endorsed the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) promise to legalize Okada.
Stonebwoy took to his Twitter page to refute the news and asked all to disregard it.
”My attention has been drawn to a 3 Year old video of me riding on an OKADA. Which is being Publicized As An Endorsement For A Political Party.. I disassociate Myself From this.. Please I Beg this is NOT in ANY WAY an ENDORSEMENT For ANY POLITICAL PARTY #GodBlessGhana”, he wrote.
President John Mahama promised his government will legalize the commercial operation of motorbikes popularly known as Okada if voted into power in 2021.
According to him, the Okada business has become a means of sustenance for young people who are unemployed.
Addressing people during his tour of Kpando in the Volta region, he stated that “our law says Okada is illegal, but it is a reality it has come to stay and you can’t stop it. So, I say when we come into office, we legalise it but we will regulate it.”
However, some people have kicked against the former president’s idea and labelled it as reckless and a threat to the lives of Ghanaians.
