The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed readiness to compensate musician Worlasi for using his song without permission.
This comes after the Ghanaian rapper, singer and songwriter asked the leadership of the NDC to do the needful and pay him for using his song at their manifesto launch.
His tune dubbed “One Life” was said to have been played during the manifesto launch.
Worlasi lamented that he didn’t give permission for any political party to use his song in their political activities so he doesn’t comprehend why the NDC do exactly that.
“NDC, you didn’t help me make my music. You did not help me in any way in my life for me to create good music. I am not part of your manifesto so please do the right thing. Make sure you make to me the necessary payments. Do what is right and start wiring the money”, he said.
Reacting to the development, Rex Omar who is the Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and also a spokesperson for the party on creative arts issues, admitted that it was a copyright infringement and that the NDC would compensate him.
“What has happened is that I called them for a meeting to discuss what can be done and what we can give them. I mean, we will compensate them,” he said.
Rex Omar laid the blame on a team within the party that used the song without proper consultations.
