Ghanaians call on Akufo Addo to intervene in 'EndSARS' protests in Nigeria

Nigerians have been up in arms over the last few days, demanding their government to disband a rogue police unit – SARS.

Ghanaians have in turn called on the chairman of the ECOWAS (which Nigeria is a member of) and the president of Ghana to help bring an end to the growing unrest in Nigeria.

Many believe so long as Akufo Addo could join the Black Lives Matter movement, EndSARS must be a campaign he cannot ignore.

Netizens on Twitter shared their opinions on EndSARS, saying;

When nana Addo is involved? Nigga I just told u maybe he should but I personally find it weird cos mostly ecowas comes in when the situation is an issue of terrorism, coup etc. Where it becomes an internal institutional issue, the Nigerian leadership has to fix this 1/2

Immediately Nana Addo speaks without broader consultation, he does so at the expense of the countries in the Ecowas region. Again, don't forget Nigeria is a sovereign state and governments should be careful of how they meddle in other countries matter.

Calling for Nana Addo to speak up is one thing. Calling for any thing other than that may be a wild reach. Even with that, he can only call for calm and promise to engage the Nigerian government. He can't support the government or even the protesters.

I don’t think government of Ghana should turn a blind eye to happenings in Nigeria. We were quick to stand up for George Floyd. Why can’t we stand up for Nigeria too? We are talking about the (same) police brutality, right?
