The Federal Republic of Nigeria is currently bleeding as what started as a peaceful demand for the end of a rouge police unit, SARS, has turned bloody.
On the night of October 20th, security forces meant to protect the people of Nigeria and to always lift high the flag of the nation, charged on harmless protesters at the Lekki Toll gate.
According to eye witnesses, the military showed up an hour before the governor’s imposed curfew came into force and randomly opened fire at protestors.
The death count is still unreached but at least some 20 young Nigerian lives were lost as many more were left injured and shaken at events of the night.
Meanwhile the National broadcasting body has asked media houses to desist from airing happenings at the Lekki Toll gate as this many paint the government, organisations and other relevant bodies in a bad light.
America’s 2016 Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton has added her voice to others calling for an end to police brutality in Nigeria using the hashtags #EndSARS #StopNigeriaGovernment.
weeting to show solidarity is Barbadian singer, Rihanna who tweeted a photo of a bloodied Nigerian flag and a message on Tuesday which reads:
“I can’t bare to see this torture and brutalization that is continuing to affect nations across our planet! It’s such a betrayal to the citizens, the very people put in place to protect are the ones we are most afraid of being murdered by! My heart is broken for Nigeria man!! It is unbearable to watch! I’m so proud of your strength and not letting up on the fight for what is right! #ENDSARS”.
