Ghanaian musician Ofori Amponsah says his colleague artists should start boycotting awards schemes that do not come along with money.

He stated that awards schemes that only offer plaques to musicians must be rejected.

Ofori Amponsah said musicians and their influence are the reasons award organizers get access to money for sponsorship from companies.

Therefore, he is asking that awards organizers give artists something more valuable than plaques.

To him, the focus on just plaques has made a number of artists in the country poor.

Ofori Amponsah revealed that he has advised himself and henceforth he will reject all awards without money.

“For me if someone calls me for an award and he/she does not give me money I won’t go. If they won’t give me anything valuable I won’t go. I have past receiving plaques. I have decided and I’m calling on all my colleagues to do same or else they are the same people who will laugh at us in future”

”It’s because of the musicians the people come to fill the venue. It’s because of the musician that the sponsorship comes through. If there is a programme and they can give out a house as the price, then why can’t they do the same for artistes?” he said on Adom FM.

A number of showbiz pundits have disagreed with Ofori Amponsah and have told him to appreciate the recognition awards schemes give artists.
