Former Ghanaian international footballer Samuel Inkoom has been granted bail by an Accra court following charges of defrauding two women under the pretense of securing U.S. visas.
In December 2023, Inkoom allegedly met Elizabeth Atarime Mboh Awuni during her search for young footballers. Presenting himself as involved in travel and tour services, he claimed he could obtain U.S. visas for a fee. Convinced by his representation, Awuni paid $4,000 for her client’s visa application. Similarly, another woman, Abigail Owusu, reportedly paid Inkoom $2,000 for the same service. After failing to deliver the visas within the promised timeframe, Inkoom allegedly became unreachable, prompting the complainants to report him to the police.
Upon arrest, Inkoom admitted to receiving the funds but claimed he had forwarded the money to a U.S. partner for processing, a claim the police found unsubstantiated. He was subsequently charged and brought before the court, where he denied the allegations.
Presiding over the case, Mrs. Susana Eduful granted Inkoom bail set at GH₵100,000 with two sureties, each earning not less than GH₵5,000. Additionally, Inkoom is required to surrender his passport and is scheduled to reappear in court on January 22, 2025.
