Parents and pupils of Avangor EP JHS located at Adeheta in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region have expressed sighs of relief after years of enduring an uncomfortable and inconducive teaching and learning environment in the area.

This was after Mr. Wise Roland Horgli, businessman and the Chief Executive Officer of Westport Petroleum had constructed a three-unit JHS classroom block worth over Ghc 400.000.00 to aid the effort of quality teaching and learning in the area.

The school pupils, who were having their lessons excitedly when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the school on Monday, September 29, did not hide their happiness at the gesture.

Mr. Samuel Agbelorbu, the Assembly Member for the area who led the news team, disclosed to the GNA that the timely intervention of Mr. Horgli to put up the building in less than a year was a dream come true.

He recalled that the pupils, who were learning under unsafe structures for years and without any proper toilet facility, saw a new turnaround when the new project was commissioned in April this year.

Mr. Agbelorbu further expressed appreciation to the elders of the community who responded swiftly in allocating a parcel of land for the project.

“This gesture from Westport Petroleum CEO must be commended, and for us as a community, we pray for good health and longevity for the donor so that more things can come to us,” he stated.

Mr. Anthony Ganyo, Headteacher of the school, in a brief interaction during the visit, remained optimistic that more pupils would be enrolled at the school.

The school presently has a pupil population of over 70 with four male staff and a female handling the JHS category.

However, some pupils the GNA observed from kindergarten to Basic Six, remained in a state of despair as some sat on the floor during teaching and learning hours due to the absence of chairs and inadequate classrooms.

The unpleasant situation, the GNA assessed, posed serious dangers to the pupils if immediate steps were not taken to salvage the situation.
