In a remarkable display of community spirit, thousands of residents in Biakoye District of the Oti Region came together to clean up their environment on National Sanitation Day.
Armed with brooms, brushes and a shared version for a cleaner and healthier community, the residents swept through the streets of Abotoase, markets and public spaces, Volta Lakeside, leaving a trail of cleanliness and pride in their wake.
The event was a resounding success, with participants from all walks of life, including students, teachers, politicians, market women and community leaders, joining forces to make a tangible difference.
Mr. Eric Kwaku Opong, the District Chief Executive (DCE) told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, the clean-up exercise not only improved the physical environment in the area but also brought the community together, fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility.
The DCE said the government has issued a stern warning to Metropolitan Assemblies, Municipal Assemblies and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country, emphasizing that those who fail to perform well on national sanitation day will face consequences.
Addressing the participants, the DCE said the government will be closely monitoring the performance of MMDAs on national sanitation day, and those that fall behind will be held accountable.
