Mrs Christina Kilson, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Co-operative Credit Union (UEWCCU), has applauded members of the Union for their continuous loyalty and support in its operations.
She made the commendation at separate encounters with members at Winneba, Senya, Cape Coast and Buduburam, where insightful discussions were held after she addressed them on the sustainability of the Union.
The meeting also gave the members the opportunity to directly ask questions on pressing issues pertaining to their welfare and the growth of the Unions.
Mrs Kilson reminded the member that they own the Union and so such encounters played a crucial role in strengthening members’ service experience and decision-making.
She gave a brief background of the UEWCCU which started in November 1994 with a membership of 28, made up of Senior Members, Senior and Junior Staff of the University of Education, Winneba, whose contributions were made from payroll deductions.
“It was a self-help project to address the financial needs of the members, promote and encourage the habit of savings among the members and give back to the community within which the Union operate.
“The Union has now transitioned into a leading cooperative credit union with three branches, three agencies in Central and Ashanti Regions and also a virtual branch, leaving impactful footprint in the communities we operate,” Mrs Kilson stated.
She affirmed the appreciation of the Board and Management of the contributions of members towards the growth and expansion of the Union and pledged their determination to work assiduously for its sustainability.

She stated that despite global challenges, the Union continued to maintain its growth trajectory, saying their achievement was through competitive advantages and executing strategies including member-focused service, diversifying revenue streams, strengthening operational resilience, staff development, proactive member risk management and performance management.
“We are committed at providing the members with secure and convenient services, to keep consolidating our gains at driving sustainable growth by focusing on excellent member services, leveraging more on technology and digitalisation, elevating operations and marketing strategies.
She noted that to enhance its information technology infrastructure, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) had been introduced for convenience and operational efficacy for the members, hence the need for them to make good use of it while doing usual transactions.
During an open forum, members shared constructive feedback, commended the founding members of the Union for their initiative which had been beneficial, acknowledged the impactful performance of the staff over the period and also expressed their gratitude to the management team for working tirelessly to ensure that their monies were safe.
Dr Mrs Gloria Amah of the UEW and a member of the Union who chaired the meetings, commended the entire members for their immense contributions that had brought them that far.
She stated that, for an organisation or institution to grow well, there was the need for the management to periodically meet its members to listen to their suggestions and ideas to help improve the well-being of members.
She said the credit union could not have been sustained without the immeasurable loyalty and contributions of its members, hence the need for them to continue patronising services and products to help better their lots.
