TexStyles Ghana Ltd (TSG), popularly known as GTP, Ghana’s leading textile manufacturing company, has supported an initiative aimed at tackling “period poverty” and promoting environmental sustainability.
The intervention, dubbed: the “Pure Pad” pilot project, is in partnership with Landfills2Landmarks Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, Grace Presbyterian Church, Akropong District, and Amor Europe.
The project aims to introduce reusable sanitary pads, made from 100 percent cotton fabric sourced from TSG’s post production off cuts.
A release copied to Ghana News Agency said 2,500 young girls would be beneficiaries of the project.
“50 local micro‑enterprises like church groups, women’s cooperatives and other community organisations will be trained to manufacture the pads; and 40 tonnes of textile off cuts will be diverted from landfills,” it said.
“This is more than just a product; this is a statement that women deserve dignity and the planet deserves care.”
The project was launced October 5, at the Grace Presbyterian Church, Akropong in the Eastern Region.
Mr Reuben Sam, Marketing Manager of the GTP brand, said the initiative aligned with the brand’s purpose.
“This initiative will help keep the girl child in school giving them the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skill to pursue their dreams,” it said.
“Providing the cotton fabrics for the production of resuable sanitary pad is our way of offering freedom, dignity and confidence to all the beneficiaries.”
“With the launch of Pure Pad, TSG once again demonstrates its commitment to corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability.”
