Boxer, Elvis Ahorgah, popularly known as “Soldier Boxer,” has been fined GHC5,000 and placed on an indefinite suspension after participating in an unauthorised international fight and repeatedly ignoring disciplinary summonses from boxing regulators.
The sanction was handed down by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC), which announced that Ahorgah breached professional regulations when he fought in Lagos, Nigeria, without formal clearance from Ghana’s boxing governing bodies.
According to officials, he renounced his Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) licence and competed under the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control — a move described as a serious violation of established procedures.
Matters deteriorated when the boxer reportedly failed to honour three separate summonses to appear before the disciplinary panel. The committee described his conduct as “unprofessional” and “unpatriotic,” stressing that no fighter under Ghana’s regulatory framework is allowed to take foreign bouts without explicit approval.
As part of the sanctions, Ahorgah’s GBA licence has been revoked, effectively barring him from professional fights in Ghana unless the suspension is lifted in the future. The GBIMC said the penalties were necessary to protect the integrity of Ghana’s professional boxing system and ensure that athletes comply with international match-approval protocols.
Two members of Ahorgah’s team were also disciplined. His trainer, Daniel Ayiquaye, received a two-month suspension and a GHC1,000 fine, while matchmaker Daniel Donkor was suspended for three months and fined the same amount. The committee said both men played roles in facilitating the unauthorised Lagos bout.
