Mr Maxwel Lukutor, South Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), has earned public commendation after providing meals for Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) potential recruits enduring long hours of screening in Ho.
The gesture, described by residents as rare among legislators, was carried out Wednesday when Mr Lukutor instructed his team to supply food and refreshments to applicants, particularly those from the South Tongu Constituency, who had queued for hours in the scorching sun
According to his aides, the initiative was inspired by reports of exhaustion among the potential recruits undergoing the rigorous screening exercise.
“These applicants had been standing in the heat for hours and needed energy to stay fit through the process,” a team member explained.
Though targeted at South Tongu applicants, the MP’s team extended the support to other potential recruits from various parts of the region and beyond.
Observers described the move as an exemplary display of leadership rooted in empathy and community care.
A resident at the scene told Ghana News Agency that the MP’s effort stood out saying, “It’s not every day you see an MP doing something this practical. It shows he genuinely cares.”
Mr Lukutor’s supporters said the gesture reflected his broader commitment to youth development and community welfare.
“This is the kind of leadership that lifts people up in their most vulnerable moments,” a constituent remarked.
The MP was expected to continue monitoring the progress of applicants from his constituency as the GAF recruitment exercise continued in Ho.
