‘Bonofie,’ the event organisers of the ‘Meko Bono’ an annual festival of the Bono people, has received an award at the 2025 Ghana Tourism Awards held in Kumasi over the weekend.
They received the Tourism Promotion, Regional Initiative Award for their dedication to promoting the cultural heritage of the people of the Bono region, thereby fostering unity and social cohesion among the chiefs and people of the area.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Seth Kofi Yeboah, the Deputy Director and Manager in-charge of Operations, ‘Bonofie’ said they were highly delighted by the honour.
He explained that the ‘Meko Bono’ festival was instituted four years ago and celebrated annually to promote the culture and traditions of the Bono people, describing the award as a testament to their hard work, dedication, and determination.
“Initially, many people doubted our ability to organise the festival, however, four years along the line, they have recognised that our efforts are bearing fruit, with many people beginning to buy into a vision,” Mr Yeboah stated.
He said with focus and determination, success was always achievable and said that “our achievement is a shared victory for all who believe in the vision of promoting the Bono heritage” and dedicated the award to the entire people of the area.
Mr Yeboah said the Bonofie remained ambitious to elevate the ‘Meko Bono’ festival into one of the biggest cultural celebrations in Africa working hard to gain international recognition.
