Police in Kokrobite have arrested a 54-year-old mason, Isaac Adonteng, for allegedly killing his 13-year-old daughter after what investigators describe as a brutal assault inside their home.
According to police sources, officers from the Weija Divisional Command were called to the house after reports that the teenager, identified as Celestine Adonteng, had been severely beaten and left without medical attention. When officers arrived, they found her unconscious in a locked room. She was rushed to the Police Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations suggest the assault happened after the father accused the girl of taking food meant for her younger sibling. Police say the suspect allegedly used a cane, a metal pipe and other objects during the attack. A cutlass and a metal pipe believed to have been used in the assault were retrieved from the scene.
Authorities say the father did not seek medical care for the child despite her visible injuries. Instead, he reportedly kept her confined in the room until neighbours alerted the police.
The suspect is currently in custody assisting with further investigations, while an autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have urged parents and guardians to avoid the use of excessive force in disciplining children, warning that such actions are unlawful and can lead to tragic consequences. They are also encouraging the public to report any suspected cases of child abuse.
The case has drawn widespread shock and condemnation in the Kokrobite community, where residents say the girl had shown signs of earlier mistreatment. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
