Premier League clubs, Dormaa Aduana Football Club (FC) and Berekum Chelsea FC of Berekum in the Bono Region are booked for a derby to mark the maiden edition of the ‘Bono Regional Minister’s Cup’.
The Sunyani-based division one sides, Boafokwa Tano FC is also expected to clash with its keen rival BA United FC to set the tone for the highly anticipated encounter, to be hosted by Aduana FC at its home grounds, the Dormaa Sports Stadium, on December 24, 2025.
Speaking at the official launch of the ‘Bono Regional Minister’s Cup’ in Sunyani, Mr Joseph Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister said the Aduana FC and Berekum Chelsea FC would receive GH₵40,000 appearance fee each with Boafokwa Tano FC and BA United receiving GH₵20,000 each.
The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) in collaboration with Bono Regional Coordinating Council and the Bono Regional Football Association (BARFA) are organizing the tournament.
Mr Akwaboa said the winners would receive prizes ranging from trophies, medals, and cash, describing the event as the “beginning of a tradition that would boost football in the region, strengthen community bonds and promote sports development”.
He said that: “Beyond the competition, this cup symbolizes discipline, teamwork, and values essential for building strong communities and a progressive region.
As we nurture football talent, we also nurture leadership, unity and the spirit of excellence”, he stated.
Mr Akwaboa commended GHALCA for their dedication and foresight in conceptualizing the tournament, saying that the Association’s commitment to advancing domestic football and supporting clubs was evident through its initiatives.
He advised the participating clubs to approach the competition with professionalism, sportsmanship, and a strong commitment to fair play, urging that “the tournament should be remembered not only for thrilling football, but also integrity and respect for the game”.
Mr John Kofi Ansah, the Chairman of GHALCA, lauded the Bono Region “for taking the lead in launching this regional football initiative”, and pledged that GHALCA would prioritise the region in the organisation of its tournament.
