The Management of Asante Gold Bibiani Limited has offered scholarship opportunities to 143 brilliant but needy tertiary students through its Educational Financial Assistance Scheme (EFAS).
Speaking at a short ceremony at Bibiani, Mr Johnson Ben Oduro, Chairman of the EFAS, said the scholarship scheme was introduced in 2017, and sought to improve the human capital base of the people within the company’s operational area.
This, he explained, would enable the youth who are the future leaders, to get the needed expertise either to be engaged directly by the company or take up other job opportunities elsewhere.
He commended the company for the continuous support to the area, especially in education, and advised residents to take advantage of the support being offered to become useful to themselves and society at large.
He also called on communities to give the company the needed support so that it could continue offering more opportunities to the youth in the area.
Mr Emmanuel Frimpong, who represented the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Education Director, lauded the company for making it a priority to improve education within Bibiani and its environs.
He charged the beneficiary students to take their studies seriously to justify the huge investments made in them so that others could benefit from future support.
Mr Sebastian Obeng, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), thanked the company for instituting the Educational Financial Assistance Scheme to award scholarship to brilliant but needy students within its catchment area as part of their corporate social responsibility.
He said the scholarship was timely, and that it would help the beneficiaries to accomplish their aspirations in attaining higher educational levels.
He also charged the awardees to take their respective courses seriously, and asked them to be good ambassadors of the company so that it would be motivated to even do more.
Mr Osei Joseph, a BSc. Mining Engineering students of the University of Mines and Technology, on behalf of the beneficiary students thanked the company for the support and promised to justify the investment made in them.
Some parents praised the company for the support, stating that many of them could not have afforded tertiary education if not for the scholarship.
