Comedian OB Amponsah has opened up on the ordeal he faced after a joke he made about former President John Mahama.
He said he was traumatized by insults especially from some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The comedian told Ghanaweb that he considered quitting comedy due to the numerous attacks.
“It was tough,” he admitted. “There was a point I cried. The threats were crazy. I don’t know how they got my number. When they call you and they don’t get you, they text you the insults. A lot of concerns… At a point, I was scared for my [life]. But I had some NDC folks calling me that they’re trying to calm nerves. It really got to me.”
While thrilling audience to some of his jokes at the just ended ‘December 2 Remember’ event organised by Citi FM, he said that ‘Mahama’ means corruption.
His joke was met with severe backlash from some Ghanaians especially members of the National Democratic Congress.
OB Amponsah later rendered an unqualified apology to former President John Mahama for his unsavoury comment.
The management of the comedian also issued an apology letter after the backlash.
