Police Commander advises against vandalism and police attacks

Chief Superintendent of Police Daniel Anane Amoah, the Navrongo Divisional Commander, has admonished members of the public to refrain from vandalising police stations and attacking officers at post.

He observed that whenever some members of the public felt aggrieved by Police actions, they vandalised Police Stations and attacked officers instead of leveraging on proper channels to seek redress.

The Commander made the appeal at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a modern Police Station at Kadema in the Builsa North Municipality.

The project was initiated by the Kadem-Nab Amuribadek Amaateng Adangabe, the Chief of Kadema, to reduce crime rate in the area.

Chief Supt. Amoah said such unpatriotic acts endangered lives, undermined the principles of rule of law and weakened the very institutions meant to protect citizens.

He reminded residents that the Police Service existed to serve the public and must be engaged constructively devoid of vandalism and attacks on personnel.

He stressed the need for strong cooperation between members of the public and Police officers in the fight against crime saying, “Crime prevention and control cannot be left to the Police alone. Crime is a shared responsibility.”

He urged community members to provide timely information, support investigations and effectively collaborate with law enforcement agencies, to ensure safety and security within the jurisdiction and beyond.

The Kadem-Nab on his part, said crime rate in the community was on the rise, so they saw the need to engage the close services of Police personnel in Kadema by initiating the construction of the station for the area to help address the challenge.

He indicated that owing to gold deposits in the area, several miners had beseeched the community, saying “Definitely, when people come together, crime cannot be absent.”

Nab Adangabe said the self-initiated project was funded by proceeds from the mining activities in the area, explaining that each miner was allocated a space and charged a fee, “I insisted that the monies charged will strictly be used for the project.”

On the Divisional Commander’s appeal, the Chief gave the assurance that they would cooperate and work with personnel who would be posted to the station after the project was completed.

“So be rest assured that we will cooperate and work with the men who will be posted here, so that there will be peace within Kadema and its environs,” he said.

While the project was yet to commence, Nab Adangabe appealed to the Commander to post about three Police officers to the area to enforce law and order, pending the completion of the project.

The Chief promised to provide accommodation for these officers at community’s own cost, and thanked all stakeholders, especially the leadership of the Police Service for the support the Traditional Council received when the idea to construct the station was birthed.
