I’m dating a lady who is a lawyer. She’s 29, has a good job, owns a car, and lives in a two-bedroom apartment. I didn’t know any of this at the beginning. I thought she was just an ordinary girl, so I told her several lies to win her over. I work as an administrator in a private school, but I told her I’m a chartered accountant at Fidelity Bank. I also told her I’m building a house around East Legon, even though I’m not. I only said those things because when I first saw her photos, she looked far above my level. I didn’t think she would even talk to me, let alone date me, so I said whatever I felt would impress her so I could sleep with her.
Now I know who she really is, and the fact that she agreed to date me even though I have nothing close to her standard is making it even harder. I don’t know how to tell her the truth or what will happen when she finds out.
The pressure is becoming too much. The other day she drove to the Fidelity branch I claimed I worked at to surprise me. I panicked and told her I was out for a meeting. She also asks me for investment advice I know nothing about, and it hurts when she ends her questions with “since you’re a banker, I thought I should ask you.”
She now wants to visit the site of the house I claimed to be building. Everything is about to expose my lies because the places she wants to go and the things she wants to see are far beyond my means. She even spends most of the time because some of the things she buys are worth three months of my salary.
I want to confess before it’s too late, but I don’t know how. I earn less than GHC 1,300.00 and the place I live in isn’t even mine; it’s my brother’s, and he’s in the military and out of the country.
Please, any advice or guidance?
