Police arrest suspects over murder and iPhone theft at Asokore Mampong

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with the robbery and fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old woman at Asokore Mampong, near Kumasi, in what authorities describe as a violent street crime.

Preliminary investigations also led to the recovery of the victim’s stolen iPhone.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Silver Ngozi, was attacked and robbed on 6 December 2025 at about 5:00 p.m. while walking in the Asokore Mampong area.

Officers said the suspects ambushed her, stole her belongings and, during the encounter, one of the assailants stabbed her with a knife, inflicting wounds that led to her death.

The Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Arthur Osei Akoto, told reporters that two primary suspects have been arrested following intelligence-led operations conducted on 12 December 2025.

The men were taken into custody at a hideout in the Aboabo area of Kumasi by a joint team from the Ashanti Regional Headquarters and the Anti-Robbery Unit.

The suspects, identified as Farouk Iddris (20), a motorbike mechanic and rider, and Salim Mohammed (19), a motorbike mechanic and rickshaw rider, allegedly admitted involvement in the robbery during police interrogation.

Investigators say Mohammed, who reportedly acted as the pillion rider during the attack, pointed to a zigzag-edged knife as the weapon used to stab the victim.

During searches of the suspects’ accommodation, officers recovered offensive weapons including knives and a machete. They also retrieved an iPhone 11 Pro believed to belong to the victim, which was taken during the robbery and has been retained as evidence.

In a separate operation, police said they arrested three additional suspects linked to a spate of street robberies across Asokore Mampong and neighbouring communities such as KNUST, Kenyase, Bosore, Duase, Antoa, Mayanka and Ayeduase.

The men, identified as Abdul Fatawu (22), Philip Nyarko (24) and Samak Hadi (21), reportedly confessed to the offences, and officers seized numerous items including dozens of mobile phones, tablets and laptops from their hideout.

All suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court as investigations continue. The police have appealed to members of the public who may have information on these crimes to come forward and assist with the inquiry.
