The Kevin Okyere Foundation has donated GH¢40,000 to fund life-saving surgery and post-operative care for a nine-year-old boy, who has been battling a severe eye infection at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The intervention comes after weeks during which Solomon Idan Jnr., who should have been in school completing his first academic term, had instead been in and out of the Children’s Block Daycare Unit at Korle-Bu.
His condition threatened both his sight and overall health. It also disrupted his education, keeping him away from the classroom during a critical stage of his development.
Solomon’s plight gained public attention through a social media campaign led by blogger Clinton Yeboah and his team, who appealed for urgent support to help the family meet the high cost of treatment.
In response, the Kevin Okyere Foundation moved quickly to cover the full medical expenses associated with the surgery and recovery process.
The donation was formally presented through Solomon’s parents to the Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Foundation, which is supporting his treatment at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The family says the intervention has eased an overwhelming financial burden and offered renewed hope that Solomon will be able to recover fully and return to school to continue his education.
