Mrs. Naana Ewusi Amissah, known affectionately to many as Kwansima, was born on February 4, 1955, in Kumasi to the late Mr. Paul Anu Bedu-Addo and Madam Florence Simpson. She was the youngest of eleven children and one of only two daughters in a close-knit family that valued discipline, learning, and service.
She began her early education in Kumasi before moving to Swedru following her father’s relocation for work. While in Swedru, she suffered the loss of her father, a turning point that could easily have disrupted her schooling. Instead, with the support of her uncle, Master Bedu-Amissah, her education continued uninterrupted, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to learning.
After completing her primary education, she attended Mfantsiman Girls’ Secondary School, graduating as a proud member of the MOGA Class of 1974. She proceeded to Komenda College of Education, where she earned her associate degree in 1976. Decades later, driven by an enduring love for education and self-improvement, she enrolled at the University of Education, Winneba, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in 2012, a milestone she regarded as one of her proudest achievements.

Her teaching career began in 1976 at Sekondi Methodist School. In 1977, she married her husband, Mr. Bedu-Amissah, in Takoradi, beginning a partnership that would span decades. She later taught at Takoradi Methodist Middle School near Esikafoabentem No. 1 before moving in 1992 to Bethel Methodist School, where she spent the remainder of her professional life.
At Bethel Methodist School, Mrs. Amissah distinguished herself as a dedicated and compassionate educator. Respected by colleagues and loved by pupils, she rose to become the second headmistress of the primary section following the retirement of the late Mrs. Lily Bentsi-Enchill. Over nearly forty years in the classroom and in school leadership, she mentored and shaped the lives of countless children in Takoradi. She retired from formal teaching in 2015 but continued to serve young learners by founding Happy Kids Crèche and Nursery, where she nurtured preschool children and prepared them for the next stage of their education.
Beyond her professional work, Mrs. Amissah was deeply committed to her faith and community life. A devoted member of Bethel Methodist Church, she served in various roles, but her greatest passion was the Girls’ Brigade. Known widely as Officer Kwansima, she dedicated more than fifty years to the movement, eventually serving as the first female coordinator for the Sekondi Diocese AMB from 2013 to 2019. Even while abroad, she remained actively involved, offering guidance, mentorship, and support, and serving as Ambassador ICC Patron until her passing.
In her later years, she embraced travel, spent cherished time with her family, and deepened her spiritual life. On the morning of Sunday, October 19, 2025, Mrs. Naana Ewusi Amissah passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy defined by service, faith, and an unwavering belief in the power of education.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Bedu-Amissah; six children; eleven grandchildren; her brother, Naval Captain George Bedu-Addo (GN Ret.), affectionately known as Bro Sofo; numerous nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of relatives, friends, former students, and church members across the world.
Her life and work are captured in the scripture she held close:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10
