Ga-Adangmes urged to preserve language and culture 

The Professionals Association of the Ga-Adagme, has urged members and individuals living outside their traditional areas to teach their children their mother tongue and ethnic identity to preserve the Ga-Adangme language and culture. 

Mr Alfred Tetteh, Chairman of the Association, speaking at the Association’s end-of-year gathering, that language was the first identity of any ethnic group and advised parents to inculcate their language, culture, and lineage into their children at home. 

 “Let’s inculcate our language, culture, and tradition into our children to protect and preserve our identity,” he added.

The gathering aimed to bring together Ga-Adangme professionals and individuals living in Sunyani to celebrate their culture and to wish each a happy celebration of Christmas. 

 Mr Tetteh encouraged parents to teach their children Ga-Adangme greetings, songs, foods, stories, history, traditional crafts, dance, and take them to cultural events to familiarise them with their heritage. 

 He mentioned that the Ga-Adangme Professionals Association’s initiative highlighted the importance of cultural preservation and the role individuals could play in promoting their heritage. By teaching children their mother language and culture, to ensure the continuation of their traditions and values for future generations.
