Three suspected robbers killed in a bush at Anwiankwanta  

Three suspected robbers have been killed during a shoot out with the Police in a bush at Anwiankwanta in the Ashanti Region.  

The three suspected robbers are Issah Seidu, 29, Musah Yakubu 35, and Yahaya Munkaila, a.k.a Tijani, 25.  

In a Police brief, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command said the suspects have confessed to several robberies and the death of a security man at Jacobu.

Four rifles allegedly used by the suspects and hidden in bushes at Manso and Obuasi respectively, have been retrieved.  

The brief said the Police gathered intelligence on Seidu, Munkaila, and others in connection with the several robberies and killings in Manso, Jacobu, Anwiankwanta and its environs.  

It said on December 24, 2025, the Police Command gathered intelligence that the gang had converged in a bush at Anwiankwanta and Jacoby junction preparing to strike on the Anwiankwanta/ Obuasi Highway.  

Based on that information, the Police Command raided the converging place in a bush near Anwiakwanta.  

On reaching there, the Police team spotted five young men with guns.

The young men opened fire at the Police and attempted to escape through the bush.  

The police, however, tactically returned fire and the three suspects sustained gunshot injuries, but the other suspects with gunshot wounds escaped.  

The Police brief said two pump action guns loaded with six rounds of ammunitions each and one unbranded pistol were retrieved.  

The Police also retrieved a sack containing 25 live cartridges and six spent cartridges.  

The three suspects, namely Seidu, Yakubu, Munkaila, all Fulanis, admitted having committed multiple robberies in Jacobu and Manso area.  

The suspects also confessed that on November 3, 2025, they engaged in robbery at Jacobu Airport, which resulted in the killing of security man in the process.  

“They also admitted to several highway robberies on the Manso Stretch, including a robbery at Antoakrom, which occurred two months ago.  

Again, they admitted the robbery at Abofour Forest near Ofinso on May 23, 2025, around 1626 hours and an attack on a gold buyer at Anwiankwanta on December 8, 2025.  

The Police said Seidu implicated one Issah Jordorma of Asante Mampong, Seidu Haruna of Nyinahin, one Ibrahim, Seidu Balli and one Abubakar, all of Ofinso Kokote, claiming that some AK 47 assault rifles are in the bush at Manso and Obuasi respectively.  

The three suspects, however, were pronounced dead on arrival when they were rushed to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital for treatment.  

On December 26, 2025, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Joseph Nyaaba deployed some officers to search for the rifles in a palm plantation near Manso Nkawanta.  

The team at about 1430 hours identified a covered trench under a palm tree and after digging same recovered four assault rifles including one AK47 rifle loaded with 18 rounds of 7.63 x39 mm ammunition, one MG3 assault rifle loaded with one 7.63×51 ammunition, one Muzzler 12 (pump action gun) loaded with seven rounds of AA Cartridges, and one single barrel gun.  

It said a black hood, a pair of multicoloured snickers, slippers and bathroom slipper were also found at the scene.  

The brief said investigations are underway to trace the source of the rifles.
