Mallam Gbawe Zero residents lament deplorable roads

Residents of Mallam Gbawe Zero in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region have expressed deep frustration over the deteriorating state of roads in the area.

The road network, characterised by numerous potholes and deep trenches, has made movement within the community extremely difficult for residents and motorists.

Madam Jessie Kwekye Quaynor, a resident, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the poor condition of the roads had become a major source of stress for her.

Madam Quaynor said ride-hailing drivers often declined requests to enter the area because of the road conditions, forcing her to walk to the main junction to board a ‘trotro’ or order a ride, a situation that frequently caused her to arrive late for lectures.

Mr Kwesi Appiah, another resident who provides delivery services for an online clothing store, said the bad roads had made his work extremely challenging.

Mr Appiah explained that the potholes and deep trenches slowed his movements, affected timely deliveries, and increased his motorcycle maintenance costs.

“I am always worried about damaging the goods or my motorbike because of
the nature of the road,” he said.

Mr Isaac Ampong, a commercial bus driver, complained that the poor road conditions forced drivers to change vehicle parts frequently, increasing their operational costs.

The residents appealed to the appropriate authorities to urgently fix the roads to ease transportation and improve living conditions in the community.
