Over 5,000 Ghanaians receive new year gift from Jospong Group chairman

Over five thousand Ghanaians from across the capital and its surrounding communities received a significant New Year boost today as Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, and his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Adelaide Siaw Agyepong, distributed essential food items and cash gifts.

The annual event, held at the family’s Accra residence, marked a decade-long tradition of festive season philanthropy.

This year’s outreach saw a notable increase in scale, with beneficiaries surpassing the 5,000 mark, up from approximately 4,500 the previous year.

Public Relations Manager for Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a member of the Jospong Group, Ernest Morgan Acquah, addressed the media, detailing the initiative’s impact and growth.

“As the New Year begins, the Executive Chairman continues his long-standing tradition of giving back to the community,” Acquah stated.

He explained that individuals from areas including Kasoa, Madina, and various city enclaves gather each year for the gesture.

Each beneficiary received a package containing tin tomatoes, a litre of cooking oil, 5kg of rice, mackerel, a soft drink, and a crucial addition: direct cash support for transportation.

“This initiative is his way of saying thank you to the people and wishing everyone a Happy New Year,” Acquah said.

He emphasized the ethos behind the act, noting it is “rooted in biblical principles, when you have, you should extend a hand to those who do not.”

The provision of transport cash was highlighted as a practical measure to ease the financial burden on recipients, ensuring the aid effectively reached those in need.

The sustained and growing commitment from the Agyepongs underscores a private-sector-led model of community support, providing both nourishment and a tangible sense of care as the new year begins.
