Former Afadjato South MP donates food items to Kpando, Ho Central Prisons

Madam Angela Alorwu-Tay, former Member of Parliament for the Afadjato South Constituency, has donated food items to inmates of the Kpando Prison and the Ho Central and Female Prisons in the Volta Region.

The donation included bags of rice, boxes of spaghetti, and large gallons of cooking oil, among other items, to support the welfare of inmates.

Presenting the items on behalf of Madam Alorwu-Tay, Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Wilson Gagakuma of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison said the gesture was part of the former MP’s longstanding commitment to supporting correctional institutions.

He said Madam Alorwu-Tay had been a consistent friend of the Prison Service and had supported the Ho Central Prison on several occasions.

He recalled that two years ago she donated a deep freezer to the prison, and last year drilled a borehole for the facility.

“Last year, she promised to donate rice to the prison during the Yuletide, but due to some challenges, she could not fulfil it. Today, she has honoured that promise,” CSP Gagakuma said.

He added that under the current administration of the Ghana Prison Service, a welfare-focused initiative dubbed: “Think Prison 360” had been introduced, with emphasis on the feeding, healthcare, and general well-being of inmates.

CSP Gagakuma described Madam Alorwu-Tay as one of the individuals deeply passionate about inmate welfare, noting that she donated 26 bags of rice, eight boxes of spaghetti, and three large gallons of cooking oil to the Ho Central and Female Prisons.

He said earlier in the day, she also donated 14 bags of rice, two boxes of spaghetti, and one large gallon of cooking oil to the Kpando Prison.

Receiving the items, Superintendent Johnson Dovlo, Staff Officer at the Ho Central Prison, expressed profound gratitude to the former MP, describing the donation as timely and impactful.

“These items will help the station to feed the inmates for some time,” he said, noting that during the Christmas season, some churches and groups had also supported inmates with cooked meals and drinks.

He said Madam Alorwu-Tay had once again demonstrated her commitment by honouring her promise, adding that she had done a lot for both the Ho Central and Female Prisons, including work on their borehole system.

“On behalf of the Regional Commander, officers, and inmates, we are very grateful for her continued support. She has practically adopted this station. Whatever she promises, she fulfils, and she continues to do more than we expect,” Superintendent Dovlo said.
