GOC sets four-year roadmap towards transformational agenda

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has launched its four-year strategic plan aimed at accelerating sports development and redefining Ghana’s Olympic ambitions.

The gathering brought together member federations, stakeholders and the media for an engaging session focused on unpacking the strategic plan and defining collective roles in accelerating its implementation.

Mr. Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee speaking at the launch, said the driving force behind the project was a deliberate shift to put athletes first in every aspect of sports development.

He stressed on the urgent need to strengthen the capacity of coaches, technical directors, and referees to better support athletes in reaching higher levels of performance.

The GOC President further revealed that the transformational plan places strong emphasis on increasing women’s participation across its activities.

Dr. Fred Awaah, Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, commended the Ghana Olympic Committee for the bold step, highlighting the critical role of sports in national development and economic growth.

He urged federations and associations to emulate the GOC’s approach by putting concrete plans on paper and executing them.

Launched in 2025, the policy is structured around six strategic pillars: placing athletes at the centre, building capacity, empowering women, promoting inclusive leadership, securing sustainable sports funding, and building strategic partnerships.
