Police arrest two more suspects in Adabraka gold shop robbery

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, says the Ghana Police Service has made strides in the fight against crime with the arrest of two additional suspects linked to the 2024 Adabraka gold shop robbery.

The suspects, Hamza Agerego, alias “Nene Bawku,” and Alhassan Elliasu, alias “Arab Man,” were arrested at Ashaiman after months of intelligence-led operations.

Firearms, ammunition, bulletproof vests and other exhibits were retrieved from them.

Mr Yohuno disclosed this at the 2025 West African Security Social Activity (WASSA) held at the National Police Headquarters on Thursday in Accra.

The latest arrests bring to three the total number of suspects apprehended in the high-profile robbery, following the earlier arrest of Salim Mohammed, alias “Fariwata,” on November 20, 2025.

The IGP noted that the development demonstrated the Police Service’s firm and decisive stance against violent crime, assuring the public that Ghana was becoming an increasingly hostile environment for criminals.

He said recent successes in investigations, intelligence-led operations and community policing had made crime “increasingly unattractive,” stressing that the Police Service would relentlessly pursue fugitives, no matter how long it took.

President John Dramani Mahama was the special guest of honour at the WASSA , attended by Regional Police Commanders, former Inspectors-General of Police, retired police officers, and other high profile stakeholders.

Participants were entertained to performances from renowned gospel and secular musicians, including Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Tagoe Sisters, Obaapa Christy, Kojo Antwi, Akosua Agyapong and Piesie Esther.

An exhibition showcasing activities and awards received over the years by the Service’s Sports Directorate was also mounted.
