Woman killed at Twifo Denyase Camp church premises; suspect lynched by mob

By News1

Residents of Twifo Denyase Camp in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region are in shock following a violent attack on Tuesday morning that left a 62-year-old woman dead and her daughter critically injured.

An angry mob subsequently lynched the suspected attacker before police could intervene.

The deceased, Baby Abienor, was attacked alongside her daughter, Gladys, around 8:00 a.m. on February 10, 2026, at their residence adjacent to a wooden structure belonging to the Apostolic Church, Ghana.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Hormeku Agbemor, a co-tenant, is alleged to have launched an unprovoked cutlass attack on the two women.

Eyewitnesses report that Agbemor suddenly became violent and struck both victims multiple times with the weapon.

Abienor succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Her daughter, who sustained serious wounds, was initially treated at a Community-based Health Planning and Services compound before being transferred to St Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu for further care.

Chief Superintendent Edmund Agyemang Badu, Central North Regional Crime Officer, told Graphic Online that police from the Twifo Praso District Command responded promptly upon receiving the report.

Officers were led to the wooden church structure and two adjoining rooms, where Abienor’s body was found lying face down in a pool of blood.

According to the Crime Officer, she had sustained deep, fresh cuts to her neck and left arm, injuries believed to have been inflicted with a cutlass.

About 15 metres away, police discovered the body of Hormeku Agbemor. His hands and legs were bound with rope, and blood stains were visible on his face. He is believed to have been lynched by enraged community members following the attack.

Preliminary investigations suggest that earlier that morning, Agbemor had begun exhibiting abnormal behaviour and verbally attacking the two women in the house. Sensing danger, Abienor reportedly went to notify an elder of the Apostolic Church.

By the time the elder arrived, she was already dead, and the suspect was standing nearby, holding a cutlass and pleading for forgiveness after allegedly confessing to the killing.

Chief Superintendent Agyemang Badu stated that the elder alerted the assembly member, other residents, and the police. However, by the time officers reached the scene, the suspect had already been lynched.

The bodies of both deceased individuals have been deposited at the Twifo Atti-Morkwa Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police investigations are ongoing.
