Men’s Fellowship critical for Church growth and development – Anglican Bishop

The Right Reverend Dennis Debukari Tong, Anglican Bishop of the Tamale Diocese, has underscored the critical role of the Anglican Men’s Fellowship, Ghana, in the growth and development of the Church.

“If the Church is to develop and grow, the role of the Anglican Men’s Fellowship cannot be downplayed; as fathers, you play a critical role in its advancement,” he said.

Bishop Tong made the remarks at the 2nd Quadrennial Diocesan Delegates Conference of the Anglican Men’s Fellowship in Bolgatanga, held on the theme: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Referencing Mark 10:45, he explained that the theme emphasized sacrificial service, noting that Jesus gave His life to save humanity and that members must be ready to make sacrifices for the Church and society. He described the fellowship’s role as a divine calling, stressing that ministry was a collective responsibility of all baptized members, not only the clergy.

He said the Church was at a critical stage where discipleship at home and in society must be prioritised. Fathers, he noted, must set examples for the youth and be true disciples to disciple others. The fellowship, he added, must serve not only as supporters but as co-ministers in the Lord’s vineyard.

The Bishop urged members to pursue physical and spiritual transformation through discipleship and establish structures to effectively fulfil their mandate.

Mr Donatus Akamugri Atanga, Upper East Regional Minister and Special Guest of Honour, commended the Anglican Church for its contributions to moral formation, peace-building, education, health, agribusiness, and charity, noting that these efforts complemented government’s development agenda. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to collaboration for sustainable development and national progress.

Worthy Brother Canon Emmanuel Tia Nabila, Tamale Diocesan President of the fellowship, said members were called to serve faithfully and selflessly in their workplaces. He added that the conference offered an opportunity to review achievements over the past four years and chart a Christ-centred path for the future.
