Dzelukofe Library & Museum Board engages GCB Bank on cultural, education hub

The Board of Governors of the proposed Dzelukofe-Community Library & Museum project has paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of GCB Bank PLC, Mr Farihan Alhassan to seek strategic support for the proposed project in Ghana’s Volta Region.

The visit, led by Togbi Joachim Acolatse IV, Paramount Chief of Kedzi and Co-Chairman of the Board, formed part of efforts to build institutional partnerships around a transformative initiative aimed at preserving Anlo cultural heritage while expanding educational, innovation, and economic opportunities for young people.

The delegation explained that the project addressed the long-standing absence of a dedicated cultural preservation centre and a well-resourced public library in the region.

Speaking during the engagement, Togbi Joachim Acolatse commended GCB Bank for its sustained commitment to education and youth development.

“This visit is about more than funding; it is about shared responsibility for our heritage and the future of our youth. We believe GCB Bank’s long-standing commitment to education and youth empowerment makes the Bank a natural partner for this vision.” Togbi said.

The proposed Community Library & Museum to be built at Dzelukofe-Keta would comprise a cultural preservation centre, a modern hybrid library with both physical and digital resources, and an innovation hub focused on digital literacy, coding, entrepreneurship, and creative skills development.

The complex would also feature meeting rooms, exhibition halls, and outdoor learning spaces, positioning it as a centre for community engagement, tourism, and lifelong learning.

Togbi Acolatse emphasised that the project’s governance framework has been deliberately structured to ensure transparency and sustainability.

“The facility will be managed by a diverse board made up of traditional rulers, senior citizens, and local authority representatives, supported by a dedicated financial board to guarantee accountability,” he noted.

Other members of the visiting delegation included Board Secretary Mr Siegfried Sedziafa, Togbi Haxormene IV, Mama Dasewa II, Mr Mawuko Dzikunu, and Mr Freeman Gobah.

Welcoming the delegation, Mr Alhassan described the initiative as timely and impactful, particularly at a time when investments in education and culture are increasingly recognised as drivers of national development.

“Preserving culture while equipping young people with relevant skills is a powerful combination. As a bank that believes in long-term national growth, we are encouraged by projects that speak directly to education, innovation, and community development.” Mr Alhassan said.

As an initial show of commitment, Mr Alhassan announced that GCB Bank would support the project with bags of cement, while Management undertakes internal consultations to explore additional forms of assistance.

Several senior GCB officials present at the meeting also expressed interest in supporting development initiatives across the Volta Region, underscoring the Bank’s openness to sustained collaboration.

The courtesy call highlighted how direct engagement between community-based project boards and corporate institutions can catalyse development outcomes.

For the Board of the Dzelukofe-Community Library & Museum, the visit marked a significant step toward mobilising institutional backing for a project expected to deliver long-term cultural, educational, and economic benefits to the region.

However, a visit by the Ghana News Agency to the project site revealed that work was progressing steadily, with block moulding currently underway.

An 11-member board was inaugurated two years ago to oversee the project, which was commissioned in January 2026 and will be sited behind Keta Senior High School. The Project will serve as a major cultural preservation and learning centre for the Anlo State and beyond
