All 59 Ghanaian fishermen who were the victims of a violent armed robbery at sea have been safely rescued, according to the MP for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui.
The fishermen were attacked by armed pirates on a mysterious “black boat” early Wednesday morning, roughly 35 nautical miles off the Central Region coast.
The assailants stole seven outboard motors and generator sets before leaving the seven canoes disabled and adrift.
A coordinated search by security forces located all vessels on Thursday, with survivors arriving at Senya Bereku, Tema, and Chorkor.
The MP confirmed that while traumatised and stripped of their equipment, all 59 men are safe and receiving medical checks.
