Police arrest 38 in anti-galamsey operation

The Police have arrested 38 individuals, including 17 Burkinabe nationals, in a crackdown on illegal mining in the Eastern Region.

The operation occurred on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Ntoranang near New Abirem.

Acting on intelligence, officers raided a palm plantation where the suspects were engaged in “galamsey” activities.

Among those apprehended are 21 Ghanaians and nine juveniles between the ages of 13 and 17.

Police destroyed equipment found at the scene, including water pumping machines and power plants.

The suspects are in police custody, assisting with investigations and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, March 2, 2026.
