Black Queens’ participation in Pink Ladies Cup in limbo despite opening win

Ghana’s Black Queens’ continued involvement in the Pink Ladies Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is uncertain following a missile incident in the country.

The Black Queens recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over their Hong Kong, China, counterparts on Saturday at the Al-Hamriyah Sports Stadium in the UAE.

The match formed part of preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), as the Black Queens are scheduled to face Russia and Tanzania in their next matches.

However, many activities have been brought to a halt in the UAE following ballistic missile attacks on Saturday, as confirmed by the UAE Ministry of Defence.

Sources close to the Black Queens say the team is safe at their hotel base in Sharjah, while officials of the Ghana Football Association are monitoring developments and consulting authorities on decisions to be made amid attacks.

This development could be a setback to the Black Queens’ preparations for the 2026 WAFCON, as they look to build on last year’s tournament, where they claimed bronze.
