Alhaji Abdul Salam Ahmed, Northern Regional Chief Imam, has urged Muslims and the public to eschew acts that can undermine national unity and peaceful coexistence.
He said sustaining peace in the country required collective responsibility from both Muslims and non-Muslims and called on all citizens to live in harmony and mutual respect.
The Chief Imam made the call when he led hundreds of Muslim faithful to observe the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Jubilee Park in Tamale on Friday.

He emphasised the need for Muslims to uphold the values of discipline, tolerance, and compassion, which were imbibed during the holy month of Ramadan, and to let those virtues guide their daily lives.
Alhaji Ahmed also encouraged Muslims to continue to promote peace and unity within their communities, saying national development could only thrive in an atmosphere of stability.
Mr Ali Adolf John, Northern Regional Minister, who joined the Muslim community to observe the prayers, called on residents of the region to uphold peace, unity, and social cohesion as essential ingredients for development.
He said the Northern Region’s diversity was a strength that must be harnessed for progress, urging stakeholders, including traditional authorities, religious leaders, youth, and women, to promote dialogue and reconciliation in resolving disputes.
He announced that the Regional Police Command had constituted a new task force dubbed “Red Maria”, to continue efforts at combating illicit drug activities and appealed to the public to support the initiative.
The celebration marked the successful end of Ramadan, a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims worldwide.
